Case Status, a client communications management and marketing platform for law firms that earlier this month raised $1.5 million in seed funding, is today announcing that it has hired Keith Lee, founder of the LawyerSmack online legal community, as chief marketing officer, tasked with directing the company’s continued growth and expansion across the industry.
A former practicing attorney in Birmingham, Ala., Lee is known to many as the founder in 2018 of LawyerSmack, a popular online lawyer community that he originally organized as a Slack group. He is also founder of the legal blog Associate’s Mind, which has been recognized multiple times in the ABA Journal’s Blawg 100 since its launch in 2010, and he was a columnist for several years for Above the Law.
Lee is the author of the 2013 ABA book, The Marble and The Sculptor: From Law School to Law Practice, and was named an ABA Journal Legal Rebel in 2019.
“I am excited to join a company that is building a new vertical in the legal technology space,” Lee said in a statement he provided to me. “Unlike so many legal tech companies that only focus on the law firm, Case Status is built from the ground up to focus on clients and law firms.
“Now more than ever with the current corona crisis, law firms need the easiest and best way to keep their clients informed about their cases. And that’s Case Status.”
Cofounded in 2017 by Lauren Sturdivant, a former personal injury attorney, and Andy Seavers, an entrepreneur, Case Status allows lawyers to provide clients with real-time visibility into the status of their matters from their mobile devices. The platform also helps lawyers grow their firms by making it easy to obtain reviews and referrals from current clients.
Earlier this month, Case Status, which is also based in Birmingham, received Series Seed II investment funding of $1.5 million from Atlanta-based venture investment firm BIP Capital.
“We’re thrilled to have an industry veteran like Keith join our company” said Sturdivant, now the company’s CEO. “Keith has been advising and consulting with us on our marketing efforts since last summer. We’re excited to finally have him with us full time as we continue with the rapid adoption of our client communications platform across the legal industry.”
As CMO, Lee will be developing and implementing an overall corporate marketing strategy, directly engaging and managing the marketing team, and translating the company’s business objectives into marketing strategies that drive revenue.
In addition, he will determine and administer the marketing budget, identify and track key metrics, and establish positioning for a wide range of Case Status products.
