It was 14 years ago today that I started this blog. Here was my first post, on Nov. 19, 2002. As I’ve noted before, this blog is so old it’s in a Hall of Fame.
Let me extend a very warm thank you to everyone who has read this blog over the years. Also a big thanks to everyone who sends me tips and story ideas. Keep ’em coming!
And a ginormous thanks to Justia for designing and hosting this blog and to all the great folks at Justia who keep the blog running and who respond within minutes whenever I panic about a technical problem.
Last week, I wrote a post titled Has Lawyer Blogging Plateaued? about results from the 2016 ABA Legal Technology Survey Report showing no increase or decrease in the numbers of lawyers blogging over the last few years. That elicited a post from Kevin O’Keefe asserting, “Legal blogging isn’t dying off or even plateauing.”
Let me be clear that I do not believe blogging is dying. I made this point a year ago, when Molly McDonough at the ABA Journal examined the state of the legal blogosphere. “Despite all the claims of the blogosphere dying out, to me I still continue to see an expansion of it,” Molly quoted me as saing. “The quality of the blogs getting launched is often very good.”
My opinion has not changed. In fact, this year, I expanded my blogging, both by trying to publish more frequently here and by launching a weekly technology column at Above the Law.
Honestly, blogging has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done professionally. It has introduced me to a wide world of friends, both real and virtual, and opened doors to all sorts of great opportunities. To paraphrase Chico Escuela, blogging has been berry berry good to me. Thanks to all of you for your readership.
