Hot off the presses is the Techshow issue of Law Practice, the magazine of the ABA’s Law Practice Division. The issue is devoted to legal technology, with a particular emphasis on becoming technologically competent.
I’m proud to say that I served as “team leader” for this issue, along with the stellar team of Mary Vandenack, Roberta Tepper and Lance Johnson. Among the feature articles in this issue:
- Technology Competence: New Wine in an Old Ethical Bottle, an article by Patricia A. Sallen on the emerging duty of technology competence.
- To Cloud or Not to Cloud?, a roundtable discussion of whether a firm should move to the cloud, moderated by Mary Vandenack and featuring panelists Nicole Black, Daniel J. Siegel, Daniel J. Pinnington, and Catherine Sanders Reach.
- Legal Calendaring: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You, an in-depth look at legal calendaring by Joseph C. Scott, former vice president and general manager of CompuLaw and now principal of his own consulting firm.
- Say Yes to a Practice Management System, an article on picking a practice management system by Natalie Robinson Kelly, director of the State Bar of Georgia’s Law Practice Management Program.
- What Every Lawyer Should Know About E-Discovery, a great overview of the essentials of e-discovery by Craig Ball, one of the leading experts in the field.
- Views From the Data Security Front Line, covering everything you need to know about storing, transmitting and using client data securely, by Mark G. McCreary, chief privacy officer at Fox Rothschild in Philadelphia.
In addition, the issue includes regular columns on ethics, business, technology and more (including my review of Citrix ShareFile).
